Terms of Service

Terms for SciFigure AI scientific drawing, data visualization, accounts, credits, and payments.

Last updated: 2026-09-20

1. Our service and these terms

These terms govern use of SciFigure AI at scifigure.org, including scientific figure generation and editing, conversational agents, data visualization, and supporting tools. By using the service, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains information handling.

SciFigure AI is an independent service. Third-party model names identify available technology and do not imply endorsement or affiliation. Features, supported settings, and processing times may depend on external providers.

2. Accounts and eligibility

You must meet the minimum age required by applicable law and have legal capacity to accept these terms, with parental or guardian authorization where required. The service is not intended for children under 13. Provide accurate account and billing information, protect your credentials, and contact support if you suspect unauthorized access.

You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account. Account registration or possession of promotional credits does not necessarily unlock paid-only features. Access depends on the selected feature, eligible entitlements, and available credits shown in the service.

3. Research inputs and generated figures

You retain the rights you hold in prompts, images, datasets, and other materials you submit. You must have the rights and permissions needed for us and the relevant service providers to process them to fulfill your requests. This processing permission does not transfer ownership of your original material to us.

Subject to applicable fees, these terms, and relevant provider terms, paid plans permit research and commercial use of generated outputs. We do not guarantee that an output is unique, copyrightable, free of third-party claims, or suitable for publication.

AI-generated figures require human review. Verify scientific mechanisms, labels, units, scales, equations, statistical representations, and correspondence with source data. Generated imagery must not be presented as genuine experimental observations or measurements. Follow your institution's, journal's, publisher's, and funder's requirements, including disclosure of AI assistance where required. The service does not replace scientific, clinical, or professional judgment and does not guarantee publication acceptance.

4. Acceptable use

Do not use the service to violate law or third-party rights; disclose personal or confidential research data without authorization; fabricate or falsify research evidence; create unlawful or exploitative content; impersonate others deceptively; or distribute malware.

Do not bypass payment requirements, access controls, or usage limits, access another user's records, or interfere with service operation. We may restrict activity reasonably necessary to address abuse, security threats, or legal obligations.

5. Purchases, subscriptions, and credits

Prices, included credits, billing intervals, supported features, and any expiration conditions are shown in the applicable offer or checkout. Review them before purchasing. A recurring subscription renews according to the terms disclosed at checkout until canceled; a one-time credit pack is a separate purchase. Promotions and administrative grants may have their own conditions.

Credits are service usage units, not money, and are not a transferable currency. A sufficient balance may be required alongside eligible paid access. Generation costs depend on the selected model, resolution, number of images, or chart feature; review the displayed estimate before submitting. Server-side eligibility and cost checks apply.

Canceling renewal prevents future renewal charges under the applicable billing terms; it does not itself refund earlier payments. Existing access and credits remain subject to their original conditions and expiration. Contact support if you need help with cancellation or if payment succeeded but access or credits did not update.

6. Generation failures and purchase issues

A request may be queued or continue processing after the initial reply. A missing preview or interrupted connection does not necessarily mean the generation failed. Check the existing conversation or contact support before submitting again, since a new request may create another chargeable task.

Confirmed failed tasks are handled through the credit adjustment process. A pending or unknown provider status may need investigation first. An output that does not match a personal preference is not automatically a technical failure.

Refund requests are reviewed case by case, taking into account service delivery, usage, the terms disclosed at purchase, and applicable law. We investigate verified duplicate charges, missing purchased credits, and paid services that could not be delivered, and provide the appropriate correction or remedy. An individual failed task does not automatically refund the entire subscription or credit-pack purchase. Nothing in these terms limits mandatory consumer rights or refunds required by law.

7. Availability, account closure, and responsibility

Maintenance, provider outages, security issues, and other interruptions may affect availability or processing time. Save important outputs locally; the service is not a permanent archive. We will give appropriate notice of material changes affecting paid services where required.

We may restrict or suspend access for material violations, fraud, security threats, or legal obligations. Contact support to dispute a restriction or request account closure. Closing an account does not automatically cancel a separate billing obligation; ask for cancellation assistance if needed. Required financial and security records may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the service. We do not exclude liability or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, and no provision overrides mandatory consumer protections.

8. Updates and contact

We may revise these terms as the service evolves, updating the date above and providing appropriate notice of material changes. Changes do not retroactively remove rights attached to completed purchases.

For support, payment issues, privacy requests, or questions about these terms, email support@scifigure.org. Include your account email and relevant order or task identifier; never send your password or full payment-card details.
